Microsoft drop bid for Yahoo
Microsoft has dropped it’s bid to buy Yahoo as the two companies cannot agree on a price for the internet firm.
Microsoft claim to have increased their offer by $5bn to $47.5bn whereas Yahoo were after a minimum price of $53bn which was more than Microsoft were prepared to offer.
Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer said ‘After careful consideration, we believe the economics demanded by Yahoo do not make sense for us, and it is in the best interests of Mircrosoft stockholders, employees and other stakeholders to withdraw our proposal’. Ballmer has told his employees that Microsoft will continue towards the same goals without Yahoo, just at a slower pace.

Haha. Good thing to hear than Yahoo is not being eaten up by Microsoft. If that happens it’ll really be all out battle between Microsoft and Google only.

I think its a good move by Microsoft to drop the bid. Microsoft has done many weird stuff lately but at least this is one great decision by them. In the future I’m sure this decision, it may benefit both Microsoft and Yahoo!.

Looks like Yahoo certainly raised some eyebrows in Microsoft. Wonder if negotiations will take place again after things have cooled off a little. Thanks for the post.

Microsoft wants to stay in the game, even though Google will beat them out eventually. It will happen , just you wait.

Personally I am glad there is still 3 search engines rather than 2. The truth is Microsoft cannot keep up with google so were hoping to buy the technology from Yahoo, to at least improve their search engine market share.
I am astnished of how bad microsoft have perfomed in this area. Even of they were behind google, they should not be behind Yahoo and ceratinly not only have around 10% of the search market, with the amount of money it has thrown at it over the last 2 year.
I think Microsoft have to prove they can do it alone. $45b is a lot of money to invest in their own search to take away some of the dominence of google. I think cheaper than buying another company with its own issues.
